Antigone Essay. SUBJECT Antigone is a play about a woman who disobeyed the King's order to not bury her brother. The play was written by the famous Greek tragedian, Sophocles, in B.C. The story took place in the city of Thebes and the time period is not mentioned Antigone is a Greek tragedy that is a beautifully written play by Sophocles that takes place in BCE. Growing up in ancient Greece Sophocles was born into privilege. He had always wanted to be an actor, but they say he had to quiet of a voice, which almost seems impossible compared to the boisterous plays he had written · Antigone entertains no such concerns and is intent on doing what is right by her brother, no matter what the cost, even if Creon snuffs out her breath. She says to Ismene, “Yes. I’ll do my duty to my brother-and yours as well, if you’re not prepared to. I won’t be caught betraying himBut he has no right to keep me from what’s mine.”
